MULTICAO (Context-Aware Ontology for Multimedia Applications) was designed to provide the support for context-aware and DRM-enabled multimedia content adaptation decisions. The ontology is divided into a core context ontology, describing the common knowledge denominator under different real-world situations of multimedia content consumption, and an extended layer ontology, which is domain-specific and only relevant to the application in view. In our approach, several extended ontologies can be created, used and merged as required by the domain application.
